​​​​​​​ACBH Training Information

The Alameda County Behavioral Health (ACBH) Training Institute is funded by the Mental Health Services Act. The institute develops, researches, and provides a broad array of training related to mental health practice; wellness, recovery and resiliency; general staff development and support; and management development. The institute is a provider of Continuing Education credit for a number of licenses and credentials, which it offers for qualifying ACBH training events.

Training Audience: Training events provided by ACBH are free and available for Alameda County Behavioral Health (ACBH) staff and it’s contracted provider staff, unless otherwise specified on the announcement for a more specific or a wider audience.

Learning Management System (LMS) - COMING TO PROVIDERS SOON
The County’s LMS, SumTotal, is the software application in which County and contracted provider staff can access and register for ACBH trainings. The LMS has a library and calendar of training events and the ability for users to search for trainings by topic or keywords plus print their training transcripts and completion certificates.

ACBH Trainings – Specific Topics of Consideration
CANS/ANSA: training activities related to the Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths (CANS) and Adult Needs and Strengths Assessment (ANSA) are hosted by the Alameda Transformational Collaborative Outcomes Management (TCOM) Collaborative and are posted on the TCOM Alameda Training calendar.

CLAS Standards Trainings: The National Standards for Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS) in Health and Health Care aim to improve health care quality and advance health equity by establishing a framework for organizations to serve the nation's increasingly diverse communities. ACBH CLAS Standards trainings are coordinated by the Office of Ethnic Services and are posted on the training calendar and in the Learning Management System. External Training Resources: This page includes links to agencies, associations, and other organizations that offer training resources and opportunities related to behavioral health on a wide variety of clinical and non-clinical topics.

Quality Assurance (QA): The QA office provides trainings to County staff and contracted provider staff on QA related topics such as Clinical Documentation Standards, CQRT, etc. To find the most up to date information on trainings provided by QA including handouts and registration information, go to Quality Assurance’s Training Page. QA trainings are also posted on the ACBH training calendar and in the HCSA-ACBH Learning Management System.

   
Continuing Education Credit

The ACBH Training Institute is a Continuing Education (CE) accredited provider with four accrediting agencies. CE credit is provided only for county and ACBH contracted provider staff who have attended qualifying ACBH training events. Details regarding CE credits for specific trainings are posted on the training flyer/announcement.

In order to receive CE credit for an ACBH sponsored training, it is the participant’s responsibility to attend the full training, sign in, sign out, and turn in a completed evaluation (and for virtual trainings complete a post-test). Training sessions begin and end on time, if a participant misses fifteen or more minutes of a training, they do not qualify to receive Continuing Education (CE) credit; no partial credit can be given.

The ACBH Training Institute is an accredited provider by the agencies listed below for the following licenses and credentials:

  • LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and/or LEPs as an approved provider by the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT), Provider No 65749
  • Psychologists as an approved provider by the California Psychological Association (CPA), Provider No. ALA006
  • Addiction Professionals by the California Consortium of Addiction Programs & Professionals Education Institute (CCAAP_EI), Provider No. 4C-04-604-0622
  • RNs by the California Board of Registered Nurses (BRN), Provider No. 12040
The ACBH Office of the Medical Director is an accredited provider to give CME credit for:
  • Physicians by The Institute for Medical Qualify/California Medical Association (IMQ/CMA); AMA PRA Category 1 for physicians.

   
Reasonable Accommodation Request

For all training events, ACBH will make reasonable efforts to accommodate qualified individuals with disabilities and/or medical conditions in accordance/compliance with the State Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA), Federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and applicable statutes.

To request an accommodation due to a disability/medical condition, call or email the contact person listed on the training announcement/flyer no later than three weeks before the training unless otherwise arranged with the ACBH training unit.

Training Cancellation Policy

The department of Behavioral Health endeavors to provide regularly scheduled training activities that meet staff needs and interests however, due to low enrollment or other unforeseen circumstances, we must reserve the right to cancel training. If a training must be cancelled, the registrants will be notified via email no later than one week in advance. In the event of an emergency in which a training must be canceled with less than a week notice, registrants will be notified as soon as possible via email and will be provided information regarding a rescheduled date.

On occasion, you may have to cancel a registration for a learning activity you cannot attend. If you foresee this, please self-cancel 48 hours in advance of the training date. Self-cancelation is accepted up to the day of the training, however if you registered for a training and do not show up for the event (and have not self-canceled prior to the event), you will be marked as a “no-show” on your transcript.

To cancel your registration, contact the person listed on the announcement/flyer or contact the ACBH Training Unit at Training.Unit@acgov.org, (510) 567-8113. When emailing or if you leave a voice message, include the date and title of the training, your name, and your email address.

   
Complaint/Grievance Procedure

In an effort to provide the highest quality services to participants in our trainings, you are encouraged to report immediately any concerns regarding your training to the WET unit. Training participants have the right to file a complaint or grievance and may do so by contacting the Workforce Education and Training (WET) unit at Training.Unit@acgov.org or 510-567-8113. No retaliation of any kind shall be taken against a participant for filing a complaint or grievance.

Once a complaint or grievance has been received, a response can be expected no later than ten (10) business days. Upon receipt, the ACBH Training Officer will conduct a formal review of the complaint/grievance and will attempt a timely resolution. If no resolution is forthcoming, or the problem is not satisfactorily resolved, the participant may direct any complaint/grievance to the WET Manager, Sanjida Mazid, at Sanjida.Mazid@acgov.org.
