Program Description The Peer Specialist Intern offers peer support services, acts as role model, offers consumer assertiveness and advocacy training; and provides both direct and indirect support services to clients.
Participates as a full team member and provides input via reporting observations, concerns and asking appropriate questions.
  • Actively participates in multidisciplinary team meetings as necessary.
  • Provides peer support services (individual and/or group) as determined.
  • Responds to other requests from supervisor as needed.
Placement Period January through June of any given year.
Program/Placement Hours 20 Hours per week worked during: Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Preferred Discipline / Experience Must be a mental health consumer currently residing in Alameda County. Must have the knowledge and ability to use public transportation. Peer Specialist Intern will be a part of a structured community or corporate training process that has oversight from said program. Must have the knowledge of the process of mental illness. High School degree or equivalent required.
First or Second Year Students Completed the Best NOW classroom training.
Supervision & Support: Ongoing individual supervision by Director of Rehab, Rehab therapists and peer support Staff. Plus training relevant to the population.
