Program Description The training of Mental Health Professionals is an essential part of the mission of the Portia Bell Hume Behavioral Health and Training Center. The Hume Center is dedicated to the development of excellence in training of psychologists in practicum students, pre-doctoral interns, and post-doctoral fellows as it supports its trainees in the delivery of psychological services to diverse under- and unserved populations. Hume Center trainees work in a multi-cultural setting and provide services to clients of many ethnicities, language preferences, ages, cultural and religious backgrounds, abilities or disabilities, and sexual orientations and gender identities. Trainees are expected to be sensitive to differences among clients in their backgrounds and sensitive to the way marginalized populations are affected by the dominant culture.
 
Placement Period One year contract
 
Program/Placement Hours Hume has Seven (7) different programs which are located in Alameda and Contra Costa County with operation hours of 8am to 7pm depending on site.
 
Preferred Discipline / Experience Doctoral in Psychology and/or MFT
 
First or Second Year Students Second Year
 
Supervision & Support: Practicum students have one hour of individual supervision (in most cases it is with a licensed psychologist unless other arrangements have been made with the practicum trainee’s school). Pre-doctoral interns have two hours of individual supervision with a licensed psychologist. Post-doctoral fellows have one hour of individual supervision with a licensed psychologist. Group Supervision (Peer Consultation Support Group): Trainees have an opportunity to consult with peers from their assigned program(s) and group supervisors on their cases in this forum. All trainees are assigned to a Case Consultation depending on their program.
