Program Description The Guidance Clinic is located in the Alameda County Juvenile Justice Center in San Leandro. The Clinic provides mental health services to wards of the Juvenile Court of Alameda County. The majority of the population is given services while in the juvenile hall or boys’ camp. The services include court ordered psycho-diagnostic evaluations, assessment, crisis intervention, individual, group, and family therapy. The Clinic has an Adolescent Sex Offender Treatment Program that provides individual, group and family therapy to adjudicated juvenile sex offenders who reside in the community. The Clinic has a day treatment unit in juvenile hall. In addition, the Clinic provides mental health consultation to the Juvenile Court, the Probation Department, and to their associated institutions and programs.

Staff includes a multidisciplinary team of mental health specialists, psychiatric social workers, marriage and family counselor, psychologists, and psychiatrists.

Psychology Students:
Practicum 43 Weeks
Half Time Intern 52 Weeks
Full Time Intern 52 Weeks
 
Social Work Interns: Internship year as designated by the school
 
Program/Placement Hours Wednesdays and Fridays are mandatory
Psychology Students:
Practicum 16 – 20 hours per week
Half Time Intern20 hours per week
Full Time Intern40 hours per week
Social Work Interns:
1st year16 hours per week
2nd year24 hours per week
 
Preferred Discipline / Experience The Guidance Clinic accepts both social work and psychology students. The preferred level of psychology students is 3rd or 4th year practicum. Preferred level of social work student is 2nd year.

The preference with psychology students is completion of coursework in psychological assessment and some experience in completing a battery of tests and writing the results in a report. In addition, course work in child development and some experience working with adolescents is preferred.

The preference for social work students is course work in assessment and child development and some experience working with adolescents.

Psychology Students:
